The King of the Blues is Dead

As many of you will already know, B. B. King sadly passed away on 14th May 2015 aged 89.

According to Edward M. Komara, BB introduced a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending and shimmering vibrato that would influence virtually every electric blues guitarist that followed. His influences are far and wide and include Eric Clapton, The Edge and Slash.

BB’s classic songs include “The thrill has gone”, “3 O’ clock blues” and my personal favourite, “Sweet little angel”.

Many people know that BB’s guitar was called Lucille and an interesting fact is that in 2005 Gibson made a special run of 80 Gibson Lucille’s – these were referred to as the 80th Birthday Lucille.

If you get chance, try and catch the Big Boy Bloater Blues Magazine Show on Team Rock Radio where they have done a fantastic tribute show to the great man.

RIP Andy Fraser!

Sad news this week as Andy Fraser bass guitarist with Free passed away.

He co-wrote and played on one of the most iconic rock songs of all time ‘All Right Now’!

My band THRASONIC will be playing at the Navigation on Wilford Street tomorrow the 21st March, where we will be dedicating our version of another Free song (and probably my favourite) ‘Fire and Water’ to Andy!

Happy Birthday Jimmy Page

Today, 9th January, is the birthday of Led Zeppelin legend, Jimmy Page – so happy birthday Jimmy!

For anyone who has not heard (or seen) much Led Zeppelin, I recommend you watch the live concert from Madison Square Garden filmed in 1976 – “the song remains the same” – this is classic Zeppelin at their Rock God best.

Enjoy!

Thrasonic

My original band “Thrasonic” have been rehearsing hard and we recently played a gig at The Greyhound in Beeston, supporting “Aimless”. Last week we played at The Navigation in Nottingham and have been re-booked to play there on the 1st November … very exciting times!

We have some live recordings on our Facebook site so please feel free to have a look at some pictures from the gigs, listen to the recordings and please don’t forget to “like” us!

Tomorrow we are off to a studio to do some recording so I’ll keep you posted about any new material.

First Post!

My first post on my blog … so my recommendation is that you get your old vinyl out and find some great old U2 albums – how about “October” – some great tracks on there including “Gloria” and “Stranger in a strange land”. Enjoy 🙂
